Ben Askren has a new date for his UFC debut. The former ONE Championship welterweight champion will be facing Robbie Lawler at UFC 235 which is set for the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on March 2nd (local time).

Askren and Lawler had originally been slated to meet at UFC 233 but that show was cancelled. Instead the two welterweights will face off in Las Vegas on a card that also features Chinese strawweight Weili Zhang who has been matched with Tecia Torres.

Askren (18-0-0-1) joined the UFC from ONE Championship as part of a trade that saw Demetrious Johnson head in the opposite direction. He previously held the welterweight title with Bellator and will be looking to immediately establish his title credentials against former 170lbs champion Lawler (28-12).

Lawler (28-12-0-1) held the UFC welterweight title from 2014-2016 but has not fought for over a year after suffering a serious knee injury in a decision defeat to Rafael Dos Anjos. Askren has not been in action since 2017 either but has been fit and healthy and will be a strong favourite.

Meanwhile Johnson looks certain to make his ONE Championship debut in Tokyo on March 31st as part of an eight man flyweight Grand Prix.
