This is one of the most famous fights in Asian MMA history. Kazushi Sakuraba and Renzo Gracie squared off at Pride 10 in a bout that was billed as being the biggest in the history of the sport.

The fight was set for two 10 minute rounds and vengeance was on the agenda for the Brazilian. Sakuraba had earned the nickname ‘The Gracie Hunter’ after beating both Royler Gracie and Royce Gracie on recent Pride cards.

The Gracie family had a proud tradition of never being submitted. When Sakuraba locked on a kimura with just seconds remaining in the second round the Brazilian was never going to tap.

But Gracie paid a heavy fight for his stubborn refusal to submit. He suffered a dislocated arm and the referee called off the contest, with Sakuraba claiming a submission win and enhancing his reputation as ‘The Gracie Hunter’.This is part of our retrospective series looking at some classic shows and fights.
