Javid Basharat made his promotional debut at UFC Vegas 50 and the Afghan got off to a winning start. He extends his record to 12-0 after beating Trevin Jones by unanimous decision.

Basharat becomes one of just a handful of undefeated fighters on the UFC roster:

Basharat was not allowed to represent Afghanistan and told by the UFC top brass that he couldn’t carry the country’s traditional flag into the octagon. But he put on a performance his countrymen can be proud of.

In an interview with MMA Fighting before the fight he stated that,

“You have to be proud of your country. That’s where your blood is from, and you have greatness within you. The thing is with the Afghan kids right now, they don’t have much to look up to. There’s a few people doing well, like the cricket team, but they don’t have that much to look up. I just want to be another person they can look up to.”

He certainly did his country proud with this performance. Basharat looks like he will be a force to be reckoned with in the UFC’s bantamweight division.
