Allycia Rodrigues does not have suffered any serious damage during her loss to Smilla Sundell. The Brazilian was back in training this week but appears to have taken a few days off in order to make the short trip from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi.

Her coach posted some footage of Rodriguez hitting pads, although it isn’t clear exactly when it was filmed. Phuket Fight Club’s Leo Elias believes that she made some big improvements while preparing for the fight with Sundell even if they didn’t get the result they wanted.

Big ask

Sundell is tall even by strawweight standards. It was always going to be a very big ask for Rodriguez to move up in weight at fairly late notice and beat the champion.

But her coach thinks the strides which Rodrigues made during preparation for that fight will leave her well prepared for any upcoming challenges at atomweight. Elias thinks the 25 year old has improved dramatically since she last competed in the correct division,

“Allycia trained really well for her last fight, she improved a lot and we are finding our best version. Now time to rest and come back to our division to defend our belt.”

New contender

There is a new contender in the atomweight division. Phetjeeja Lukjaoporongtom has fought four times for ONE Championship at Lumpinee Stadium and finished every opponent inside the distance.

After her third win she was officially handed a ONE Championship contract. For some reason the promotion doesn’t have atomweight Muay Thai rankings but Phetjeeja has surely earned a spot in the top five.

Alternatively Rodrigues could decide to go after a second belt in the same division. Janet Todd is the current atomweight kickboxing champion and she has already beaten the American in a Muay Thai fight.

The biggest name opponent out there for the Brazilian is Stamp Fairtex. She already holds a win over the Thai superstar, who is the newly crowned atomweight MMA champion.

Stamp appears to be more focused on MMA these days. But Rodriguez would surely love to share a ring with the highest profile female fighter on the entire roster again.
