These days fighters will do just about anything to get an edge. From hyperbaric oxygen therapy to altitude masks mixed martial artists have always explored innovative and sometimes not particularly scientific new methods.

But Ayaka Miura has gone back to basics to do something that human beings have doing for centuries. She shared a photo of herself on Instagram earring fried scorpions and spiders.

Ready to fight

Underneath it she had a message for the ONE Championship matchmakers telling them that,

I am ready to fight!

Miura was last seen in action at ONE Fight Night 7. She faced Danielle Kelly in a submission grappling bout which went the distance but the Japanese fighter can’t have been too disappointed to lose by decision.

Kelly is a decorated BJJ black belt so surviving ten minutes on the ground with the American was an achievement in itself. But Miura will surely want to return to MMA competition next.

Coming up short

She earned a shot at Xiong Jing Nan who is one of the most dominant champions on the ONE Championship roster. But Miura simply couldn’t get the fight to the ground and ended up losing by decision as a result.

Miura’s last MMA fight did not go the distance. She was stopped by up and coming Brazilian star Dayane Cardoso in the second round at ONE 156.

But Miura believes the experience of preparing to face Kelly in a submission grappling match will have made her a much better mixed martial artist.

She wants an opportunity to try out her grappling skills in an MMA fight. The 33 year old seems to be willing to do whatever it takes to relaunch her career and if that involves eating fried insects then Miura is clearly down to do that!
