Belingon and Fernandes to fight for third time at ONE: ‘A New Era’
A bantamweight title fight between Kevin Belingon and Bibiano Fernandes has been added to ONE: ‘A New Era’. The two men will face off for the third time with the Filipino’s bantamweight belt on the line.
It is one of four title fights set for the March 31st event at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo. The last fight between the two took place at ONE: ‘Heart of the Lion’ with Belingon winning a split decision, an outcome that caused some controversy.
It was the first time Fernandes (22-4) had lost a fight in eight years. However it was the third time the Brazilian had seen a title defence settled by split decision so Belingon (20-5) might be entitled to feel that the former champion’s luck had finally run out.
ONE Championship‘s maiden Tokyo event on March 31st will feature former UFC champions Eddie Alvarez and Demetrious Johnson as well as a lightweight title rematch putting Shinya Aoki against Eduard Folayang and a middleweight title rematch pitting Aung La Nsang with Ken Hasegawa.
Xiong Jing Nan also defends her strawweight title against Angela Lee. Meanwhile Alvarez has been matched with Timofey Nastyukhin on his promotional debut while Johnson faces Yuka Wakamatsu.
