Yan Xiaonan was very unfortunate to drop a split decision to Marina Rodriguez at UFC 272. But the Chinese fighter’s performance was rendered even more impressive by a recent revelation about the injuries she suffered early in the fight.

Speaking to The All Star she described the impact that a knee to the groin in the opening round had,

“In the first round I did very well but during the round she kneed my groin so that hurt me a little bit and affected my performance. The groin getting kicked or kneed (doesn’t) only affect male fighters.”

A lot of pain

Xiaonan elected to continue after taking a brief break but says she was in a lot of pain,

“I just told them ‘it’s okay it’s okay give me some time but after the fight when I had the medical exam, there was a lot of blood there and it was very painful.”

She is now coming off back to back defeats having won her first six UFC fights. But Xiaonan has decided to stay in the US and continue training at Team Alpha Male in the hope of being handed a quick turnaround.

She wants to fight again as soon as possible,

“If the UFC  can give me a good opponen I can fight anywhere.”
