Canadian heavyweight Ben Tynan has signed with ONE Championship. The promotion announced his arrival on the official website along with a list of reasons why the 29 year old can be ‘MMA’s next great heavyweight’.

Featuring fairly prominently on this list is his record. It is perfect with Tynan having won four fights out of four since turning pro last year while he was also undefeated as an amateur.

While Tynan has not been a professional for too long he put together an 8-0 amateur record that included wins over some decent level opponents. He also wrestled at an NCAA Division I level in the US so there are no prizes for guessing where his strengths lie:

Most handsome

Tynan describes himself as,

“The most handsome fighter in the game.”

Having finished every opponent he has ever faced inside the distance the Canadian’s career has clearly not come at the expense of his looks, so far. He signed with ONE Championship nine weeks ago so it will be interesting to see when and where Tynan ends up making his promotional debut.

There is definitely room for some fresh talent at heavyweight. Oumar Kane, more commonly known as Reug Reug, beat Marcus Almeida before deciding to walk away from the promotion as a free agent.

Arjan Bhullar is 37 and hasn’t won a fight in over two years so it isn’t clear when, or if, he will be back. That leaves the division without a clear contender to face newly crowned heavyweight champion Anatoly Malykhin.

Filling the void

It is a void Tynan could clearly fill and being undefeated would give a match with Malykhin even more allure. The Russian has never lost a fight either although his standard of opposition has been significantly higher.

During his amateur days Tynan did beat a 10-0 opponent. He also submitted Trevor Wallace, who was 4-1 at the time, in just his second pro fight so his opponents haven’t all been novices.

But the other three fighters Tynan has faced during his pro career didn’t have a single win between them. The sport needs characters and ‘Vanilla Thunder’ definitely seems to fall into that category so the Canadian will be looking to make big waves in Asia.
