Some big names might have left Team Lakay this year but the fighters who remain at the Baguio based gym continue to enjoy success. Last night Carlos Alvarez scored his second stoppage win of the year at ONE Friday Fights 25.

Alvarez has been booked to take on Reza Saedi. But in a last minute change he found himself matched with another Iranian, taking on Sadegh Ghasemi in a featherweight fight.

There was some speculation that the likes of Eduard Folayang, Joshua Pacio and Kevin Belingon had left Team Lakay because they wanted to improve their grappling. But the young generation of fighters at the gym are submitting opponents left, right and centre.

Last minute

Alvarez won by ground and pound at ONE Friday Fights 13.  He controlled the action from start to finish here, taking Ghasemi down in the opening round and keeping him there until the bell.

Alvarez actually got tagged at the start of the second but his opponent got wild and ended up slipping over. The Filipino moved from half guard to side control and locked in a d’arce choke with the tap coming at the 1:23 mark.

He improves to 3-0 after winning at Lumpinee Stadium for the second time. Ghasemi drops to 0-1 after a pro debut that appears to have been put together at the vary last minute.
