There were some major upsets at UFC 293 but Da Un Jung couldn’t cause one. He was submitted by Carlos Ulberg in the final seconds of their light heavyweight fight in Sydney.

The fight got underway with both fighters exchanging kicks. Ulberg decided to break the pattern by launching a quick combination before unleashing a sharp jab.

Jung countered with a jab to the body and sought to march his opponent into a corner. Ulberg closed the distance and landed a powerful right hand, sending the Korean to the canvas.

Ulberg went to work with his hands in the second and cracked Jung with a clean jab that knocked his head back. The 29 year old was already bleeding by this point and the New Zealander was scoring with more precision.

Jung struggled to make an impact beyond throwing leg kicks as he continued to eat multiple stiff jabs. Down on the scorecards, Jung stepped up his output in the third and landed with some solid combinations.

He secured a takedown, only for Ulberg to find his feet straight away. Then it was the Kiwi’s turn to bring the fight to the canvas with a takedown of his own.

Ulberg fired off left hands and looked close to getting the stoppage as Jung covered up and absorbed the punishment. He then transitioned to a rear-naked choke with seconds remaining in the final round.

Jung tapped out with just a second left on the clock. Referee Herb Dean missed it but after viewing post fight replays the officials decided to award Ulberg the submission win.

Ulberg extends his record to 10-1 while Jung’s slips to 15-5-1 after suffering his third straight defeat.
