There’s last minute and then there’s the fight between Celest Hansen and Phetjeeja Lukjaoporongtom that just got added to tomorrow’s ONE Fight Night 15 card. It appears to have been announced sometime during the weigh ins.

The fighters must have had a bit more notice as they both turned up and made weight.

Successful teammates

Phetjeeja and Hansen have both signed ONE Championship contracts. The majority of the fighters competing on the Friday night cards just sign on for a bout at a time.

While both have been regulars at the ONE Friday Fights events this will be Hansen’s first time fighting on one of the Amazon Prime cards. It means a spot in the atomweight rankings will be at stake for the Australian.

Allycia Rodrigues remains the atomweight Muay Thai champion despite her loss at ONE Fight Night 14 last weekend. She was challenging Hansen’s teammate Smilla Sundell for the strawweight belt.

Hansen was clearly inspired by the performances of Sundell and Stamp Fairtex and will be looking to replicate their success:

Seamless transition

Phetjeeja has finished every opponent she has faced this year. She needed less than 30 seconds to put away Lara Fernandez at ONE Fight 12 and has made the transition seamlessly from the Friday night shows to the Amazon Prime ones.

ONE Championship does not currently make its atomweight Muay Thai rankings public. But if Phetjeeja isn’t already in the top five then another win would surely get her there.

With Anissa Meksen sidelined indefinitely she could be one win away from a title shot. Phetjeeja has already fought Stamp Fairtex once and both have said they would be open to a rematch.

With Stamp now holding the atomweight MMA title she might not have too much time for Muay Thai. Phetjeeja is the rising star in the atomweight division but, having lost last time out, Hansen will be looking to steal her momentum and underline her own title credentials.

It isn’t clear exactly when the two atomweights found out they would be fighting or how much preparation they have had. But tomorrow morning at ONE Fight Night 15 both Phetjeeja and Hansen will be fighting with a spot in the top five on the line.
