Brandon Moreno became the interim UFC flyweight champion last weekend. He stopped Asian MMA veteran Kai Kara-France in the fourth round to set up a unification bout with regular champion Deiveson Figueiredo.
Jarred Brooks used to compete in the UFC’s flyweight division and has a debatable split decision loss to Figueiredo on his record. The ONE Championship strawweight star was watching that fight and it is fair to say he was not impressed with Moreno’s performance.
He took to Twitter to ask a pertinent question:
Btw who the fuck gets taken down by Kai Kara France?

Top ranked
Kara-France does not come from a wrestling background, unlike Brooks. But Moreno found himself on his back at the start of the third round with the New Zealander able to score with some ground and pound.
It looked like Kara-France might have capitalized on a slip rather than intentionally shot for a takedown. But whatever the intent he succeeded in putting the Mexican on his back.
Brooks is a veteran mixed martial artist and wrestler. He has fought for Rizin and Bellator as well as the UFC and is currently the #1 ranked ONE Championship contender.

Self inflicted
Moreno and Figueiredo have already fought three times. The Brazilian is currently injured but when he is ready to return he will face the Mexican in a fourth match.
Brooks has not fought for the UFC since 2018. But his stint in the octagon was not exactly unsuccessful, he won two fights out of four and there were extenuating circumstances behind two of the losses.
One of them was the split decision loss to Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC Fight Night 119 in Brazil and the other was a KO defeat to Jose Torres at UFC Fight Night 131 which was basically self inflicted. Brooks picked the undefeated American up and slammed him so hard that he somehow succeeded in knocking himself out.
Less than a year later he was competing in the strawweight division and Brooks has not lost since. Next up for the American is a title bout with Joshua Pacio but he is still keeping a close eye on the UFC’s 125lbers.
