Jarred Brooks is currently campaigning at strawweight. But the American believes he should have a win over reigning UFC 125lbs champion Deiveson Figueiredo on his record.

The two met in 2018 and Brooks dropped a split decision. But the bout took place in Brazil and he believes the judges did his Brazilian opponent a big favour,

“I think 90% of people thought I won that fight. I know the years go by and people fight different, but I put out the game plan to beat Deiveson.”

Wrong aproach

At UFC 270 Figueiredo reclaimed the flyweight belt with a unanimous decision win over Brandon Moreno.

Brooks thinks the Mexican made some tactical errors in that fight,

“I think Brandon Moreno should have kept that game plan of taking Deiveson to the mat after punching him a couple of times.”

Brooks looks set to challenge for the ONE Championship strawweight title next. Meanwhile Figueiredo holds the UFC 125lbs title so the chances of them rematching in the immediate future are nonexistent.

But Brooks is very confident that he would be able to beat the Brazilian,

“If Deiveson and I fought again? I promise you I would beat him pretty good.”

Former champion

He also has his sights set on a former UFC flyweight champion. Brooks’ immediate business might be in the strawweight division but he would like a shot at Demetrious Johnson,

“Demetrious Johnson, if you’re watching this man – utmost respect. You are the best of all-time in my opinion. And to share the circle with you would be a complete honour,” he said.

Stepping in

Brooks also made it clear that if ‘DJ’ was unable to face Rodtang Jitmuangnon in his mixed rules bout at ONE: ‘X’ he would be happy to step in and replace the American,

“If Demetrious couldn’t fight Rodtang – I would pop in. I think I could last a round. I think I would run away from Rodtang for about three minutes and then after that round I think I could beat Rodtang.”

With two ONE Championship wins in quick succession Brooks is on a role. But the American’s ambitions aren’t limited to a strawweight title shot and it sounds like he is willing to face anyone and everyone.
