The news does not exactly come as a complete surprise. Manny is already a congressman in the Philippines and was widely expected to run for president in next year’s election.

His boxing career appears to have come to a natural conclusion. The 42 year old lost to Yordenis Ugás last month and the years seem to have finally caught up with Manny.

But he certainly won’t be putting his feet up now that his boxing days are behind him. Manny has a country to run, but will voters in the Philippines give him the opportunity to do it.

Manny is set for a political battle that could be nastier than any boxing match he has participated in. Does the eight division world champion have what it takes to become president of the Philippines?
