Jeremy Miado was posing Mansur Malachiev a few problems. He scored a flash knockdown with a right hand and was able to work his way back up whenever the undefeated Russian put him down.

But Malachiev showed the submission skills which made him a two division Eagle FC champion. One opportunity was all he needed and having taken Miado down he immediately sank in a D’Arce choke.

The tap came at the 4:31 mark and Miado will have been frustrated to have been caught so late in the round. The Filipino had a significant height advantage and his takedown defence was on point.

Reaching out

Afterwards Malachiev revealed he had reached out to reigning ONE Championship strawweight champion Jarred Brooks on social media. He says the American promised to fight him if he beat Miado,

I texted something on Instagram to the champion and he replied to me. He was like win this fight first.

Malachiev was informed that Brooks had already agreed to rematch Joshua Pacio. The Filipino was submitted by the American at ONE 164 last year.

Malachiev sounded disappointed to discover he would not be fighting for the title next. But the Russian says he is happy to face another contender first and has no doubt he will beat them,

If the champion does not keep his word I am ready for the next opportunity. I am very confident I will win the next fight too.

For his part Brooks didn’t sound particularly impressed with Malachiev’s performance:

Close eye

With the win Malachiev improves to 11-0 and looks set to break into the top five at strawweight. Miado drops to 10-5 and sees his four fight winning steak snapped.

While Malachiev might not be next in line for Brooks the American was clearly keeping a close eye on this matchup. The Russian looks set to be a force to be reckoned with in the strawweight division and could be just one win away from a title shot.
