Mark Striegl is set to make the first defence of his featherweight belt at URCC 77. The 30 year old faces UFC veteran Shunichi Shimizu in the third title fight to be added to the April 27th card.
Striegl (18-2) won the belt last September and subsequently served a six month suspension for missing a GAB drug test in the aftermath. He has been matched with an experienced opponent on his return.
“I’ve been training in Baguio at high elevation and I feel like I’m getting better every day adding new skills and becoming a better martial artist. I don’t think Sunichi will be able to handle my pressure and pace,” Striegl said.
Shimizu (32-22-11) is a veteran of 65 fights and earned a UFC contract in 2014. He will be looking to snap a four fight winning streak and has respect for the reigning URCC featherweight champion,
“He a unique athlete with strong wrestling and powerful strikes. We will speak more in the cage,” he said.
As previously announced Chris Hofmann will be defending his middleweight title against Musa Conteh at URCC 77. Meanwhile welterweight champion John Adajar faces Miguel Mosquera
