Mizuki Inoue will be one of eight fighters competing to be crowned the new Invicta FC strawweight champion. The Japanese fighter is booked for a one night tournament at Phoenix Rising 1 on May 3rd.
Brazilian Virna Jandiroba recently vacated the title to sign with the UFC. A new champion will be crowned at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City next month but the new champion will have to beat three opponents in a single night.
The quarter finals are set and Inoue (13-5) will take on Sharon Jacobson (5-4) while Janaisa Morandin (10-2) meets Brianna Van Buren (5-2). The last four fighters are all UFC veterans with Danielle Taylor (10-4) facing Juliana Lima (9-5) and Kailin Curran (4-6) going up against Sunna Davíðsdóttir (3-0).
The reserve bouts will also feature an Asian fighter. India’s Manjit Kolekar (11-2) faces Amber Brown (7-5) in one while Alyssa Krahn (5-2) takes on Itzel Esquivel (4-2) in the other.
The two reserve bouts will be one round affairs and be considered exhibitions in terms of record keeping. If a fighter is forced to pull out injured then one of the winners will step in and replace them in the tournament.
