A young Muay Thai fighter has died tragically just says before she was set to compete. Shalie Lipp had just completed a training camp in Thailand ahead of a fight in the US this month when she was involved in a car accident in Minnesota.

The 21 year old was set to compete in an amateur MMA fight in Detroit on May 20th. She had recently returned to the US from Phuket where she had been training and competing in Muay Thai.

Lipp spent time at Bang Tao Muay Thai and also fought at Bangla Stadium. According to the New York Post she was not wearing a seat belt and was killed when two cars collided in Moorhead on Sunday morning.

Upcoming fight

Lipp holds an amateur MMA record of 3-2 and was set to fight for a title for the first time at No Mercy 11 on May 20th. She was booked to face Natalie Gage in a bout that had the IF flyweight belt on the line.

It represented a quick turnaround for the 21 year old who fought in Patong on April 26th under Muay Thai rules. Video footage shows her finishing an Iranian opponent with a kick to the body.

Bright future

Lipp hailed from Fargo in Minnesota and was set for a bright future in MMA according to No Mercy promoter Jeremy Bjornberg who told My MMA News that,

She was someone everyone knew was going to go somewhere and end up in the UFC.

According to the New York Post Lipp was the only person involved in the accident who wasn’t wearing a seat belt. The other drivers and passengers were not injured.

Bang Tao Muay Thai also paid tribute on Instagram stating that,

We are devastated to hear the news that Shalie Lipp has passed away. Shalie visited us at Bangtao recently and became a positive figure throughout the gym.
