Petr Yan won for the first time since 2021 at UFC 299. The former bantamweight champion beat Song Yadong by decision at the Kaseya Center in Miami.

The Chinese fighter had the better of the opening round and landed a sharp left hand. Yan was looking to counter with leg kicks but midway through the round Yadong caught one and took him down.

With around 30 seconds remaining in the round Yan was able to get to his feet and he shot for a takedown in the closing stages. The Russian was staring down the barrel of a fourth straight win but took matters into his own hands in the second.

Top position

He ate an elbow at the start of the round but began to come on strong in the closing stages, landing two hard uppercuts before scoring a takedown and finishing the round in top position.

It means the third round was going to be decisive and Yan got the better of a wild striking exchange with blood starting to pout from Yadong’s face. With a minute remaining he took the Chinese fighter down and finished the bout in top position.

All three judges scored the fight 29-28 for the Russian who improves to 17-5 and finally snaps his four year losing streak. Yadong drops to 21-8-1-1.
