Phetjeeja Lukjaoporongtom scored her second stoppage win in a row a Lumpinee Stadiun last night. She finished Inès Pilutti in the first round at ONE Friday Fights 16 and was rewarded with a long term contract by the promotion.
Phetjeeja looks set to be a real contender in the atomweight division and reigning Muay Thai champion Allycia Rodrigues will have been watching with interest. She looked to rip punching combinations to the body and head right from the opening bell while following up with low kicks.
It took less than a minute for a left hook to find its mark with Phetjeeja’s style seemingly very suited to fighting with the smaller gloves. Pilutti did not appear to be enjoying her ONE Championship debut and looked to be a little intimidated by the aggressive Thai.
She was eating left hooks to the body and head and started to cover up. With no threat of being caught on the counter Phetjeeja started to unload with elbows from close quarters.
With 30 seconds to go in the round Pilutti went down due to a cumulation of damage rather than one knockout blow. The French fighter beat the count but Phetjeeja was basically using her for target practise at this stage and the referee stepped in to save her from further punishment.
The finish came at the 2:50 mark. Afterwards Phetjeeja was informed that she had earned a contract with ONE Championship and a $10,000 USD performance bonus.
