Indian strawweight Priya Sharma is set to compete on the upcoming Road to UFC event. The Indian strawweight shared a photo of herself signing the contract.

Season 3 of the Road to UFC events is set to get underway on 18th May and 19th May at the Performance Institute in Shanghai. it is not clear whether Sharma has signed up for a one off fight or to participate in an Indian tournament.

She didn’t reveal her opponent’s identity but Sharma does have a date confirmed,

“Contract signed, 18th May here I come. Dreams do come true if you work long enough to make them a reality.”

Well travelled

Sharma’s record currently stands at 5-1. She has been living and training Brazil where she won her most recent fight but appears to be back in India now.

Her only loss came at the hands of Lisa Kyriacou who beat her by split decision in 2o22. She is regarded as being one of the best strawweight prospects in Australia.

Sharma has spent time training at Fairtex in Thailand and the Ribas Academy in Brazil. She has also fought in both countries as well as her native India.

Difficult route

Her compatriot Puja Tomar recently became the first Indian fighter to sign for the UFC. She was picked up by the promotion in October but has yet to make her debut and doesn’t currently have a fight booked.

While Tomar was snapped up on the basis of her existing record Sharma has been handed a much more difficult route. She will need to literally fight her way into the UFC.

We still don’t know the lineup for the upcoming strawweight tournament but the Indian will probably have to win the semi finals and final if she wants to earn a contract. If Tomar succeeds she will be following in the footsteps of Anshul Jubli who won the Road to UFC lightweight tournament last year.
