Puja Tomar will finally make her UFC debut in June. The Indian strawweight signed for the promotion last October and will become the first female fighter from her nation to step inside the famous octagon.

Tomar has been matched with Rayanne dos Santos at UFC Fight Night 234. The event does not currently have a location but is set for June 8th.

Tomar (8-4) was released by ONE Championship in 2020 after losing three out of her four fights for the promotion, with the sole win during this stretch coming by way of split decision. But she would go on to win four in a row and won the strawweight title at Matrix Fight Night 12.

She trains at Soma Fight Club in Bali and has been matched with an experienced Brazilian opponent.

Stepping up

Dos Santos (14-7) is a former Invicta FC atomweight champion and a BJJ black belt. She dropped a split decision to compatriot Talita Alencar on her UFC debut last December.

Both fighters have competed at atomweight in the past but the UFC does not currently put on fights in this division. For Tomar this clearly represents a significant step up in terms of competition.

Best of the rest

There are currently only three fights on this card. In the middleweight division Julian Marquez (9-4) has been matched with Zachary Reese (6-1) in an all American fight.

At strawweight two more Brazilians face off when the undefeated Eduarda Moura (10-0) goes up against Denise Gomes (8-3).
