You could not accuse ‘Reug Reug’ of lacking ambition. The Senagalese wrestling sensation has called out Anthony Joshua and is hoping to face the Englishman at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

Oumar Kane is coming off a win over Marcus Almeida at ONE Fight Night 13 last weekend. He got the better of a sloppy striking fest and wants the opportunity to test his boxing skills against the former WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion.

Last minute

Reug Reug and Almeida went to war with the Senegalese star getting the better of some wild striking exchanges. What one of the best heavyweight boxers on the planet would have made of it all we don’t know.

Joshua is in need of an opponent this weekend. He was supposed to rematch fellow Englishman Dillian Whyte in the main event of a pay per view card at Wembley Stadium.

But Whyte was forced to withdraw from the fight after failing a drug test. The search is on for a suitable opponent who would be willing to step in at the last minute to face Joshua.

‘Reug Reug’ would clearly be willing. But he has zero boxing experience and no-one who watched his last fight would suggest that the mixed martial artist was ready to make an immediate transition into elite boxing.

Unsuitable opponent

Of course we ae in the age of the celebrity fight. Only last week UFC veteran Nate Diaz faced YouTuber Jake Paul with the social media star emerging victorious on that occasion.

But Jake Paul has spent thousands of hours and millions of dollars to hone his skills and reach the point where he can be considered a serious boxer. Kane doesn’t have the time or the budget to do this, although he did pick up a $50,000 USD bonus for his win last weekend.

Promoter Eddie Hearn is set to announce Joshua’s replacement opponent today. ‘Reug Reug’ has put himself into contention but it would be a major surprise if the promoter decided to hand him a boxing debut at Wembley Stadium this weekend.
