ONE Fight Night 8 is set to take place on Saturday but headliner Rodtang Jitmuangnon has somehow managed to injure himself at the very last minute. He will no longer be taking in Superlek Kiatmoo9 and Danial Williams has stepped in to replace him.

Superlek holds the flyweight kickboxing title and Rodtang was supposed to be challenging him for that belt. But the promotion announced just now that he was ‘out due to injury’.

Late development

Given that Rodtang was sharing videos of himself hitting pads in Thailand a few days ago this must have been a very late development. The reshuffle sees Williams elevated to main event status.

He has been competing regularly in Muay Thai but was booked to face Rui Botelho in a Muay Thai fight on Saturday morning. Instead he will be taking on Superlek in the main event.

Superlek won the belt by beating Daniel Puertas at ONE Fight Night 6 in Bangkok. He will be making the first defence of it against an opponent who posed Rodtang a few problems in his last Muay Thai fight.

Heavyweight clash

A heavyweight unification bout was scheduled to headline ONE Fight Night 8egular champion Arjan Bhullar was set to face interim champion Anatoly Malykhin in a bout that has been postponed multiple times.

The fight has been in the works for over a year now and was originally booked for ONE 161 in September. Bhullar pulled out of that event in order to undergo arm surgery.

But unfortunately that fight has been postponed again due to ‘a shift in broadcaster commitments’.

Unification bout

One title fight is going ahead. Allycia Rodrigues and Janet Todd will finally face off at ONE on Fight Night 8 with the undisputed atomweight Muay Thai title on the line.

Rodrigues is the regular champion while Todd holds the interim belt. The Brazilian has been out of action for nearly two years after becoming pregnant and giving birth to her first son.

Meanwhile Todd currently holds the atomweight kickboxing and interim Muay Thai titles. The American has won her last seven ONE Championship fights and will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Stamp Fairtex by becoming an undisputed two sport champion.

Grudge match

Seo Hee Ham and Itsuki Hirata are set to face off in what promises to be an atomweight grudge match. The experienced Korean refused to fight the Japanese prospect at ONE 163 after she failed hydration tests.

Hirata has a history of missing weight. All eyes will be on her at the weigh ins this Friday to see whether she can pass the various checks, and whether Ham agrees to fight her if she doesn’t.
