VTJ put on its first event since 2016 tonight but the major talking point occurred after the main event had finished. Shinya Aoki stormed into the cage and started throwing elbows at teenage star Yamato Nishikawa after his submission win over Kazumasa Sugawara.

Quite why Aoki would want to assault the 18 year old is unclear although those elbows didn’t really seem intended to cause any long term damage. Nishikawa (16-3-5) is on an 11 fight winning streak and could be next in line to fight the former ONE Championship lightweight champion.
Nishikawa submitted Japanese journeyman Kazumasa Sugawara (6-7) midway through the opening round. He wasn’t the only up and coming star on the VTJ card.
In the main event Tatsuro Taira (10-0) submitted Chile’s Alfredo Muaiad (6-3) with a first round rear naked choke. He appears to have outgrown the regional scene in Japan and should be looking to sign with an international promotion.
At the opposite end of the career spectrum is UFC veteran Caol Uno (34-22-5). He dropped a decision to Akira Haraguchi (6-2-0-1) who is 20 years younger than him.
