UFC veteran Takeya Mizugaki has signed with Deep. He will face promotional veteran Shoji Maruyama in Tokyo on May 12th.
Mizugaki (22-13-2) was supposed to fight for Rebel FC but the bout was repeatedly postponed. Instead he has decided to sign with one of Japan’s main domestic promotions and will compete at Deep 89.
Maruyama (16-11-1) is a former Deep featherweight title challenger. He is coming off a stoppage loss to Koichi Ishizuka at Deep 88.
Mizugaki fought 13 times for the UFC between 2011 and 2016. He’s been in with the likes of Cody Garbrandt, Dominick Cruz, Urijah Faber and Miguel Torres.
This will be Mizugaki’s first fight in Japan since 2005. Before signing with the WEC he had competed under the banner of Shooto and GCM.
