UFC 300 is set for the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on April 13th. There isn’t a single fight on the card right now but everyone on the roster wants to be involved.

Weili Zhang is the latest to throw her hat into the ring. The reigning UFC strawweight champion is not looking to defend her title though, she wants to drop down to flyweight and fight for another one.

She has challenged reigning flyweight champion Alexa Grasso. The Mexican clearly wants the fight and now the ball is very much in the court of the UFC matchmakers:

Going up

Zhang and Grasso aren’t the only people who want the fight to happen. It has also caught the attention of Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg who left a comment stating that,

“I would love to see this fight.”

Zhang has spent her entire UFC career competing at 115lbs. But she made it clear she was willing to pile on the pounds in order to challenge for the flyweight belt,

“I can go up to 125. Let’s make it happen.”

Back home

Zhang has spent a lot of time training at Fight Ready in Las Vegas and Bang Tao Muay Thai in Phuekt. She is back in China now and appears to be training hard despite not having a fight booked.

The UFC 300 card is sure to feature multiple title fights. Conor McGregor is expected to finally make his return, the Irishman has not been seen inside the octagon since 2021 when he suffered nasty looking leg break.

With a few title fights already booked for early 2024 several of the promotion’s champions are likely to be unavailable. Current bantamweight king Sean O’Malley’s UFC 299 appointment with Marlon Vera definitely rules him out.

But neither Grasso or Zhang have anything booked. They would both like a spot on the UFC 300 card and are hoping they will get to face each other on what promises to be one of the biggest events in the promotion’s history.
