Wu Yanan has a new opponent for UFC Fight Island 7. She will face Joselyne Edwards in Abu Dhabi on January 16th.
Brazilian Beth Correira was forced to pull out of the fight because she needs to have her appendix removed. But the UFC matchmakers have been able to find a last minute replacement for the former bantamweight title challenger.
Edwards (9-2) will be making her UFC debut. She hails from Panama and challenged unsuccessfully for the Legacy Fighting Alliance bantamweight belt in 2018.
Yanan (11-3) signed for the UFC in 2017 but has only fought three times after seeing multiple bouts fall through due to injuries to either her or her opponent. Her record in the octagon stands at 1-3 and she will be moving up a division after struggling to make weight as a flyweight.
UFC Fight Island 7 will also feature a welterweight bout between Santiago Ponzinibbio and China’s Li Jingliang. The event will be headlined by a featherweight fight between #1 ranked Max Holloway and #6 ranked Calvin Kattar. It will be the promotion’s first event of 2021 and the seventh to be held on Yas Island since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
