Ze Lang Zha Xi submits Li Zhe at ONE Hero Series 10
ONE Hero Series 10 was the first time in the show’s history that non-Chinese fighters were featured. But the main event featured two locals with Ze Lang Zha Xi submitting Li Zhe with a guillotine choke late in the opening round.
Zhe set out to make this a grappling contest right from the offset, securing a single leg takedown despite his opponent’s best efforts to defend. Zha Xi was briefly on his back but popped up almost immediately as they clinched against the ropes.
This time it was Zha Xi who dropped for a double leg with neither man particularly interested in making this a striking contest. He spent the majority of the round in Zhe’s guard but never really threatened with strikes or submission attempts.
When the referee stood them up with about a minute remaining Zhe landed a right hand and followed up with a double leg. But no sooner had Zha Xi’s back hit the canvass than he sunk in a deep guillotine choke.
Zhe’s neck was completely exposed and Zha Xi was able to complete the submission using a single arm. The former drops to 5-4 while the latter improves to 11-4-1.
The event also featured a battle between two Russian lightweights who had previously lost to Eduard Folayang on ONE Championship cards. Aziz Pahrudinov (22-1-1) prevailed over Kharun Atlangeriev (11-2) courtesy of a triangle choke early in the opening round.
There was also a Muay Thai bout between two ONE Super Series veterans. Anthony Njokuani is best known for his UFC stint but had far too much for Elliot Compton, dropping the Australian with quick combinations in the first and second rounds to secure a lopsided decision win.
