Allycia Rodriguez was feeling in a philosophical mood after discovering that her comeback fight had been cancelled at the last minute. Opponent Janet Todd is rumoured to have tested positive for Covid-19 and the Brazilian took to Instagram to confirm that the world title match would not be going ahead.

She gave birth to her first son last year but looks in fantastic shape in this pic she snapped in her Manila hotel room. Rodriguez has yet to defend the belt she won in 2020 so it must have been a major disappointment to discover that she would have to wait even longer.

But she appears to be taking the news well:

Bad news

Writing in Portuguese she broke the bad news to her 90,000 Instagram followers:

I always put everything in God’s hands and if it wasn’t his will it’s all right, I’m sad yes only I know how much I was looking forward to getting back in the ring but on the other hand I’m very happy for all the work done, I just have to thank all my team @jmcoakle for the work done with me and that’s it there’s not much to say just wish a good recovery for @phuketfightclub and that we can meet soon.
Thank you all for your messages. On to the next one.

The bad news for the Brazilian is that this is the final fight card of the year for ONE Championship. The next event is not until January 14th when the promotion makes its long awaited return to Bangkok.

On January 20th the weekly events at Lumpinee Stadium begin and there will be at least one title fight on that card. Nong-O Gaiyanghadao is defending his bantamweight Muay Thai title against Alaverdi Ramazanov.

The January 14th event looks set to be headlined by a featherweight kickboxing title fight. Superbon Banchamek is defending his belt against Chingiz Allazov at ONE on Prime Video 6 in a bout that has been postponed multiple times.

Rodriguez, who is based in Phuket, will be hoping her fight with Todd winds up on one of these cards. Having waited over two years to defend her belt she will have to wait at least another month.
