Recently Brandon Vera has gone on record about wanting to challenge Aung La Nsang for his light heavyweight title in Tokyo. Now that the ONE Championship 2019 schedule has been released we know there are two possible dates for that fight and the two division Burmese champion is hoping it will happen.
“I am a big fan of Brandon Vera and have always rooted for him in his career. It would be an honor for me to share the cage with him. That being said, if the match does happen I will make the best preparation to give the fans what they want to see. It would be a dream come true to have the fight happen in Japan, ” La Nsang told AsianMMA.
ONE Championship will be putting on events at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo on March 31st and October 12th next year. Vera has already stated that he wants to fight La Nsang on the latter date,
“I’ve asked to fight again October of next year in Japan. He’s an amazing athlete, Aung La, so that’s who I asked to fight next,” Vera said recently.
La Nsang will presumably be back in action at ONE: ‘Reign of Valor’ which is set for Yangon on March 8th. That would almost certainly rule him out of ONE: ‘A New Awakening’ which takes place in Tokyo just three weeks after the only Yangon card currently on the 2019 calendar.
However the reigning middleweight and light heavyweight champion will presumably want to get at least two title defences in next year. That would make ONE: ‘Greatness Unleashed’ on October 12th the ideal date for La Nsang’s second bout of 2019, meaning that a light heavyweight fight with Vera in October could well be on the agenda.
La Nsang (24-10-0-1) has won nine fights out of ten since signing for ONE Championship in 2014, claiming two titles in the process. Vera (16-7-0-1) signed with the promotion the same year but has only fought four times, winning all four matches and capturing the heavyweight belt.
