ONE Championship recently signed former UFC champions Eddie Alvarez and Demetrious Johnson. So the news that the promotion’s CEO Chatri Sityodtong spent five hours talking to Georges St Pierre yesterday is sure to set a few tongues wagging:

The former UFC welterweight champion was in Singapore for a seminar at Evolve MMA. He recently announced his retirement from the sport but so did Vitor Belfort, who was persuaded to change his mind and sign for ONE Championship.

Former UFC champions Rich Franklin and Miesha Tate both have executive roles with ONE Championship. Meanwhile Belfort, Yoshihiro Akiyama, and Sage Northcutt are among a plethora of fighters on the roster who have competed in the octagon.

Could we see St Pierre competing in ONE Championship’s welterweight division? A few years ago it would have been unthinkable but signing Johnson, Alvarez, Northcutt and Akiyama has helped the promotion establish itself as a serious competitor to the UFC.
