John Wayne Parr has been handed a nice little retirement gift. The Australian won the fan vote for the final $50,000 USD performance bonus at ONE: ‘X’.

JWP was one of eight fighters to be handed the bonus with ONE Championship handing out a cool $200,000 USD. He was overcome with emotion when informed that he had won the poll and would receive the money:

The 45 year old announced he would use the money to pay off his mortgage! Parr’s fight with Eduard Folayang at ONE: ‘X’ was the last of his career, he is now officially retired.

Parr might have lost the fight but he clearly won a lot of fans during the course of a glittering Muay Thai career. The Australian’s popularity helped him get 42% of the votes in the poll.

Having handed out seven bonuses on fight night ONE Championship let fans decide the destination of the final bonus. Nearly half of them felt that Parr was the most deserving.

He didn’t get to retire on a winning note. Folayang was too fast for the veteran although the fight was one of the highlights of the night, with Parr threatening to secure a dramatic late comeback.

It is common for companies to give long serving employees a gift when they retire. JWP might have only been with ONE Championship for two fights but his fans managed to ensure that the veteran got a lucrative goodbye present!
