Times are tough in Thailand’s Muay Thai industry. With shows all cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic fighters have been forced to look elsewhere for work and even Buakaw Banchamek has has to learn a new trade by the looks of it.

Buakaw shared a photo on Instagram of him helping to build a new road at the Banchamek Gym:

Buakaw will be turning 40 next year although you wouldn’t know it to look at his chiseled physique. The multiple time Muay Thai world champion is clearly in fantastic shape and will be raring to make a comeback once restrictions in Thailand are eased.

Buakaw has not fought since 2019. But after fighting around ten times every year for the last two decades we think he has earned a break.

His career has had its ups and downs. He threatened to retire after a well publicized dispute with the Por Pramuk camp but the ‘White Lotus’ now has his own gym in Chiang Mai, complete with bungalows and a restaurant which is known simply as the ‘Buakaw Village’.

He is a global star who will always be in demand whether it is competing in the Muay Thai ring or making celebrity appearances. Buakaw is a big star and we are sure that his move into the building trade will only be temporary!
