A flyweight fight between Joanne Calderwood and Andrea Lee has been added to the UFC 242 card in Abu Dhabi. The news was broken by MMA Junkie yesterday.
Calderwood (13-4) is a veteran of nine UFC fights. She is coming off a decision loss to Katlyn Chookagian that snapped her two fight winning streak and is currently ranked at #14 in the 125lbs division.
Lee (11-2) has won all three of her UFC bouts to date. She’s coming off a seven bout winning streak that saw her capture the Invicta FC 125lbs title and she is currently ranked #13 by the UFC, one place higher than her opponent.
As previously announced UFC 242 will be headlined by a lightweight unification bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier. The former holds the regular title but is just returning from a suspension while the latter owns the interim version.
There is a strong Russian presence on the September 7th card with Shamil Abdurakhimov, Muslim Salikhov, Islam Makhachev and Mairbek Taisumov all fighting as well as Nurmagomedov and Mustafaev. This will be the first UFC card to be held in Abu Dhabi since 2014.
The first card took place at a purpose-built stadium on Yas Island and featured the likes of Anderson Silva and B.J. Penn while the second card was at Du Arena and didn’t have such a stellar line up.
