Jun Yong Park scored a signature win at UFC Fight Island 6 on Sunday morning. The Korean middleweight dominated John Phillips from start to finish to claim a lopsided decision victory.
The Korean spoke to the media in the aftermath of the fight. He said he was ‘frustrated’ not to finish Phillips despite landing 26 strikes,
“I didn’t sweat the finish too much. Obviously it was a little frustrating. But I was really happy with my wrestling performance. This whole training camp it was all wrestling, and it was an area I wasn’t confident in, but they made me confident just training in it every day and I’m happy to see the results of that training.”
Phillips managed to cut Park badly at one point and the Korean feels he got careless,
“It feels good to win, but the cut was my fault. I wasn’t paying attention. It is what it is.”
It was his first fight since December and Park says it felt good to be back inside the octagon after such a long layoff,
“I feel good. Things are crazy with the coronavirus so we couldn’t fight when we wanted to but I’m grateful to the UFC for putting on Fight Island.”
Park has been linked with a matchup against Khamzat Chimaev and laughed off suggestions that the two might fight soon,
“Does he want to fight me? Where is he? I feel like I’m not high ranked enough to be calling out people so whoever the company puts in front of me I’ll fight.”
