The main event of ONE Hero Series 2 pitted the accuracy of Yang Fu Chong against the aggression of Li Hao Jie. It was the latter which prevailed with takedowns in the second half of the fight probably securing the 24 year old a split decision win.
Chong looked extremely confident in the early exchanges although he was a bit conservative in his output. Jie was consistently missing with wild, powerful hooks his opponent was firing jabs straight down the pipe with devastating accuracy.
At the start of the second stanza Chong followed up his jabs with a cross that found its mark. Perhaps recognizing that he was losing the striking match Jie switched tactics and started looking for takedowns.
A single leg takedown from Jie was completed with ease and in the final five seconds of the round he began to score with punches and elbows from top position. The final round followed a similar pattern although this time the ONE Championship alumni didn’t leave it so late to take the action to the floor.
Chong was able to get back up only to be taken down again. While Jie wasn’t able to do any serious damage the takedowns were enough to persuade two of the judges to award him the win with the third voting in favour of his opponent.
Jie improves to 7-3-1 and will be hoping he has earned a slot on a future ONE Championship card. He is currently undefeated in three fights across the promotion’s various platforms. Chong drops to 1-2.
