Jarred Brooks is known as ‘The Monkey God’ for reasons which remain unclear. But upcoming opponent Lito Adiwang has a theory and the American probably won’t like it.
He had some harsh words about Brooks,
“Brooks is an unlucky guy who talks and act like a monkey that’s why he calls himself ‘The Monkey God’. He tries to bluff and get in his opponents head before the fight.”
Eating monkeys
It is not like Team Lakay fighters to talk trash about their upcoming opponents. But Adiwang clearly holds Brooks in contempt and isn’t afraid to let people know about it,
“I am ready to humble him and show him that there is a lion in this division that eats monkeys for breakfast.”
He is coming off a decision win over Hexigetu at ONE: ‘Revolution’ last month but Adiwang believes he has improved since that contest,
“I’ve improved from my last fight. I think that I’m a smarter, stronger, and tougher fighter now who’s ready to continue winning in the strawweight division,” he said.
Humbling him
The two were originally set to face off at ONE on TNT Part II and Adiwang thinks the six month delay will have worked in his favour,
“The cancellation of our original match, I think, is also a blessing in disguise as it gave me more time to study his style and check on his strengths and weaknesses. With those in mind, I think I can accomplish my goals when I fight him and that is to humble him inside the ONE circle,” he said.
Brooks is unranked having yet to compete for ONE Championship. But the Rizin and UFC veteran brings a big reputation and Adiwang thinks he can crack the top five with a win over the American,
“Brooks consider him self as the number one in this division so defeating him must put me on the top five rankings.”
It is unusual for Team Lakay fighters to be this outspoken. Brooks has clearly got under Adiwang’s skin and the Filipino will want to make him pay when they meet at ONE: ‘NextGen’ Part III.
