Loma Lookboonmee is training at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas. The Thai strawweight does not appear to currently have a fight booked but has been training in the US for the past two weeks.

Loma appears to have recovered from her recent arm injury. She underwent surgery earlier this year and looked set to be on the sidelines for  a prolonged period but is back sparring again.

Loma, who has a long term girlfriend, posted a rainbow emoji along with a caption reading,

Small steps everyday.

Submission win

Loma is coming off the first submission win of her entire career. The 27 year old finished Elise Reed with a rear naked choke at UFC 284 to improve her record to 8-4.

She was the first Thai fighter to ever sign with the UFC and has been on the roster since 2019. Loma has won five out of her seven fights in the octagon despite being one of the shortest fighters in the strawweight division.

Loma shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed last month with her right arm heavily bandaged. So it was something of a surprise to see her wearing shin pads and 7oz gloves during what was presumably a sparring session.

Moving up

Loma is coming off back to back wins although she remains outside of the top 15 at strawweight. The 26 year old is clearly on an upwards trajectory and also gained plaudits earlier this year for speaking out about her struggle with mental health issues.

She beat Denise Gomes by decision last September. It was her first win in over a year and afterwards Loma admitted she had been suffering from depression.

She hasn’t fought since February but has been keeping busy. Earlier this year she travelled to Pattaya to help Stamp Fairtex prepare for her match at ONE Fight Night 10.

In April she was awarded a purple belt in BJJ. It was an impressive accomplishment for a fighter who competed exclusively in Muay Thai for many years.

Loma seems determined to continue improving as a fighter and has travelled to Las Vegas to train at one of the most prestigious facilities in the sport. She will hoping to have cracked the top 15 at strawweight by the end of the year.
