Loma Lookboonmee looks set for a spell on the sidelines. The Thai strawweight shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed and announced she had undergone surgery after suffering an injury in training.
Loma is currently on a two fight winning streak and fights out of Bang Tao Muay Thai in Phuket. She doesn’t specify how the injury occurred, or exactly what it is.
But eagle eyed observers will notice that her right arm is heavily bandaged so this was presumably where the injury occurred:
The 27 year old is in good form with four wins in her last five fights. She is coming off the first submission victory of her career at UFC 284 but Loma appears to have suffered a recent setback.
Writing in Thai she tells her fans,
There was an accident in training and I had to have an operation immediately.
Loma doesn’t currently have any fights booked. But it appears she had an offer on the table and had been hoping to compete on a UFC card in June,
I had a fight booked for next month but I had to cancel it.

Loma has clearly been training hard. Her most recent update was posted on Instagram two weeks ago and showed the Thai posing with reigning UFC strawweight champion Weili Zhang, who is a regular visitor to Bang Tao Muay Thai.
She also spent time in Pattaya helping Stamp Fairtex prepare for ONE Fight Night 10. But it doesn’t look like Loma will be training or competing nay time soon.
It is impossible to gauge the extent of the damage or the severity of the injury based purely on a photo. It isn’t even clear which part of her right arm she has damaged, with the hand itself appearing to be heavily wrapped.
But having undergone surgery it looks likely that Loma will be out of action for the next few months. Fans will be disappointed to see her sidelined just when things were starting to go so well.
But with five wins from her seven UFC fights at least Loma is well established in the strawweight division. The 27 year old will definitely be back, we just don’t know when.
