Meng Bo is up to #2 in the strawweight rankings after her win over Samara Santos at ONE: ‘Unbreakable’ last month. With the champion currently out of action she feels there is only one fight for her.

Bo wants to take on #1 ranked Denice Zamboanga and there is already some bad blood between the two atomweights. According to Bo a fight between them has been in the works for a while,

“We were supposed to fight last year, but Covid happened and it was canceled. I couldn’t fly to Singapore at that time. But I must say, Denice was lucky that fight got canceled. If we were in the ring together, without a shadow of doubt, I would beat her up and take her spot as the #1-ranked atomweight in the division.”

Pretty confident

With wins over Jihin Radzuan and Mei Yamaguchi the Filipina has clearly faced a slightly higher level of opposition than Bo during her ONE Championship career. But the Chinese fighter is not overly impressed,

“Denice is a stubborn and tough fighter, but if I was to identify her strength, she’s only good at punching, nothing else,” she said.

She believes the is capable of finishing Zamboanga inside the distance,

“I think my stand-up fighting techniques will be enough to give me the victory. I’m pretty confident that I can finish Denice with a flurry of punches and knock her out within two rounds.”

Room for improvement

While Bo is scathing about her rival she does realize there are areas where she personally can improve,

“I learned a lot in the Samara Santos fight. One weak area I’ve discovered is my ground fighting skills. I need to improve my ground control and strength. My goal is to master all combat sports skills and become the most dangerous MMA fighter in ONE Championship.”

An atomweight Grand Prix featuring Seo Hee Ham was supposed to be getting underway at the start of this year. But Bo believes she can earn a title shot singly by beating Zamboanga,

“Once I get Denice in the circle and beat her, I will be ranked number one in my division, and I’ll be next in line to fight the champion.”
