Mohamad Osseili remains undefeated after beating Samir Zaidi in a catchweight contest at UAE Warriors 19. The Lebanese light heavyweight scored a decision win over the French fighter at the Jiu Jitsu Arena.
Osseili shot for his first takedown as soon as the bell sounded to start the opening round. It was stuffed and the two traded punches in the centre of the cage. The two clinched up again with the Lebanese fighter applying constant pressure.
Both looked tired by the end of the opening round and the pace slowed in the second stanza. But it was Osseili who seized the initiative, taking his opponent down and landing some ground and pound from mount.
Best moment
Zaidi was in defensive mode but with about 30 seconds remaining in the round he reversed the position and started to attack. It was the French fighter’s best moment of the fight but Osseili reversed the position almost instantly and finished the round on top.
It left Zaidi needing something dramatic to turn the fight around in the final five minutes. At one point he did succeed in taking Osseili down but he couldn’t keep him there and spent the majority of the round either on his back or defending takedowns.
Foregone conclusion
The decision was foregone conclusion with Osseili having pushed the pace from the moment the bell sounded to start the fight. all three judges scored it 30-27 in favour of the Lebanese fighter.
With the win Osseili improves to 4-0 and extends his perfect professional record. Zaidi drops to 5-3 and has not lost three fights in a row.
