The ONE Lumpinee shows will be broadcast live on Channel 7 in Thailand. The events will be taking place every Friday and the promotion has signed a deal with the largest TV station in the country.

The first of these events is set for January 20th and will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Nong-O Gaiyanghadao and Alaverdi Ramazanov which will have the latter’s Muay Thai title on the line.

Channel 7 has historically been the home of Muay Thai in Thailand. It has been on air since 1967 and is owned by the Royal Thai Army, as is Lumpinee Stadium.

Millions of viewers

Prior to the pandemic the televised events used to attract millions of viewers every Sunday lunchtime. But Covid-19 decimated the country’s Muay Thai industry.

The first wave of infections in Thailand emanated from an event at Lumpinee Stadium and it has taken a long time for the sport to recover. Chatri Sityodtong pledged to invest $100 million USD in order to help grow the sport in Thailand and it seems that some of ONE Championship’s biggest stars will be competing on the weekly cards.

As well as being broadcast live on Channel 7 the events will be available on international television networks throughout the world. There is also a ONE Championship event booked for Impact Arena on January 13th.

Big year

ONE on Prime Video 6 will be headlined by a featherweight kickboxing title fight. Superbon Banchamek is putting his belt on the line against Chingiz Allazov.

The Thai fighter has been on incredible form since signing for ONE Championship. He established himself as arguably the best kickboxer on the planet by knocking out Giorgio Petrosyan last year.

ONE Championship has not held an event in Bangkok since 2019. But Thailand looks set to be a key market for the promotion with one of the flagship Amazon Prime cards booked for January as well as the start of the weekly events at Lumpinee Stadium.

The promotion also announced it would be making its long awaited US debut next year. Demetrious Johnson faces Adriano Moraes for the third time at ONE on Prime Video 10 in May.

2023 looks set to be a very big year for ONE Championship. It also looks set to be a big year for Muay Thai with Channel 7 screening the weekly events at Lumpinee Stadium into every household in the country.
