Indian strawweight Priya Sharma is going to extreme lengths in order to take her MMA game to the next level. She has travelled all the way to Brazil to train with the Ribas brothers.

The 31 year old, who holds a 4-1 record, has also spent a lot of time training at the Fairtex Gym in Pattaya. But while Thailand is a relatively quick trip from India she has made the near 10,000 mile journey to Varginha to train at the Academia Ribas Family.

Sharma is currently training at the camp which produced current UFC strawweight Amanda Ribas.

Sole defeat

The sole defeat of Sharma’s career came at the hands of Lisa Kyriacou. She dropped a split decision to the Australian fighter in a strawweight fight on Thailand last year.

Kyriacou went on to beat Nat Wondergirl convincingly on her ONE Championship debut earlier this month. It makes Sharma’s narrow loss to the Australian look all the more impressive.

She appears to have been in Brazil for a few weeks now. The 31 year old doesn’t currently have a fight booked but will surely be looking to challenge for the Matrix Fight Night strawweight title.

Title contender

Sharma is coming off a decision win over Jojo Rajkumari at Matrix Fight Night 10. The same night Puja Tomar was crowned as the promotion’s first ever strawweight champion.

Tomar was matched with an overseas opponent and made her first title defence at Matrix Fight Night 12 this month. She beat Anastasia Feofanova with Sharma apparently overlooked as a potential title contender.

Matrix Fight Night recently changed its matchmaking team and it isn’t clear whether or not Sharma is still under contract to the Indian promotion. But the 31 year old is clearly serious about her MMA career.

Having been in Thailand just a few months ago she is now training in Brazil. Sharma is dedicated to her craft and is willing to travel a long way in order to make her MMA dreams a reality.
