UFC Fight Island 7 is set for Abu Dhabi on January 16th. According to reliable reports a welterweight bout between Santiago Ponzinibbio and Li Jingliang has been added to the card.

A recent report in MMA Fighting suggests that a welterweight bout between Santiago Ponzinibbio and Li Jingliang is in the works. The Chinese fighter saw a UFC 256 fight fall through after an opponent rested positive for Covid-19.

For Jingliang (23-6) this represents an opportunity to bounce back after the loss to Neil Magny at UFC 248 earlier this year. That defeat snapped a three fight winning streak for the former Legend FC welterweight champion who is a veteran of 13 UFC fights.

Ponzinibbio (27-3) is riding a seven fight winning streak. However the Argentinian has been out of action for two years after seeing several fights fall through.

The event will be headlined by a featherweight fight between #1 ranked Max Holloway (21-6) and #6 ranked Calvin Kattar (22-4). It will be the promotion’s first event of 2021 and the seventh to be held on Yas Island since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
