Rizin CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara confirmed yesterday that the much anticipated cross promotion between Bellator and Rizin would take place on December 29th in Japan.

Fedor Emelianenko appears set to compete on the card and Sakakibara says an ‘emergency press conference’ will take place tomorrow:

The partnership between Rizin and Bellator has seen fighters like Muhammed Lawal and Darrion Caldwell compete in Japan with Kyoji Horiguchi and Rena Kubota heading in the opposite direction. However this would potentially be the first time the two promotions had put on an event together.

Traditionally Rizin holds two cards in Saitama Super Arena at the end of the year. Last year Rizin 14 took place on December 31st with an event entitled Heisei’s Last Yarennoka taking place a couple of days earlier.

The plan for 2019 appear to be broadly similar but with Bellator co-promoting the December 29th card. More details are likely to be revealed at tomorrow’s press conference.
