Marcus Buchecha has signed with ONE Championship. He is one of the most decorated fighters in BJJ history and has won gold medals at tournaments on 18 occasions.

ONE Championship CEO / Founder Chatri Sityodtong broke the news on Twitter in the early hours of the morning:

Buchecha has spent the majority of his BJJ career competing in the absolute or 100kgs+ division so he looks set to join ONE Championship as a heavyweight. The 30 year old will be making his MMA debut with Asia’s biggest MMA promotion.

The Brazilian normally trains out of renowned grappling camp Checkmat. He recently announced he would be joining Evolve MMA in Singapore to prepare for his ONE Championship debut.

Brandon Vera is the reigning heavyweight champion. However the UFC veteran does not fight very frequently and is coming off a second round stoppage loss to Aung La Nsang in a light heavyweight title fight at ONE: ‘Century’ pt 2.

Vera is scheduled to make his next title defence against fellow UFC veteran Arjan Bhullar. But with both men currently based in the US that fight looks unlikely to materialize until travel restrictions are eased.
