Masato faced Albert Kraus in the final of the K-1 Max 2003 tournament. The event took place at the Saitama Super Arena and the Japanese fighter was out for revenge, having been beaten by the same opponent the previous year.

Kraus beat Masato in the semi final and went on to win the K-1 Max 2002. The Dutchman was looking to win the tournament for the second year in succession.

Meanwhile Masato was looking to become the first ever Japanese fighter to win a K-1 Max tournament. The event took place on July 5th, 2003 and you can see the full fight here:
