Supergirl Jaroonsakgym’s title dreams are in tatters after Cristina Morales made her quit in the first round at ONE Fight Night 16 this morning. The Thai fighter made a slow start and her opponent capitalized ruthlessly.

With very little coming from Supergirl the Spaniard started to really pick up the pace towards the end of the opening round. She attacked with punches that snapped her opponent’s head back and followed them up with kicks.

Thai fighters tent do start slowly but even by these standards Supergirl looked lacking in ideas. If she was hoping Morales would allow her time for the feeling out process then the 19 year old was destined for disappointment.

Running away

It isn’t clear exactly which blow did the damage. There was a knee to the body from Morales which must have hurt but Supergirl, who has launched a modelling career, remained on her feet and absorbed a bit more punishment before turning her back and running away.

The referee was keeping a keen eye on proceedings and immediately gave the Thai fighter a standing eight count. She was on her feet but never raised her gloves, which is the traditional signal a fighter gives if they want to continue.

There were no protests from the teenager when the referee called off the contest. Disappointment was etched all over her face but you did not get the sense Supergirl wanted to continue.

Before the fight she had talked about wanting to challenge the winner of the upcoming interim atomweight kickboxing title fight between Anissa Meksen and Phetjeeja Lukjaoporongtom. This was a reality check for Supergirl who looked nowhere near that level.

Meksen totally dominated Morales before knocking her out in the second round. Supergirl did not make such a good impression against the Spaniard unfortunately.
