Denice Zamboanga clapped back at Meng Bo this week. The Chinese fighter had been disparaging about the #1 ranked atomweight contender, claiming the Filipina was ‘only good at punching’.
Zamboanga was not impressed. The division is becoming increasingly competitive with the signing of Seo Hee Ham set to be announced imminently and an atomweight Grand Prix in the works.
Bo seems to have decided it is time to bring some trash talking into the equation. She would like nothing more than to make the Chinese atomweight eat her words,
“It’s cute that she thinks she can knock me out in two rounds. I’d like to see her try. Let’s see what happens,” she said.
Carried away
Bo is riding a seven fight winning streak that includes three victories inside the ONE Championship circle. She’s only averaged one bout per year since since signing for the promotion in 2018 and Zamboanga clearly feels the Chinese fighter is getting carried away with her success,
“Meng Bo likes to talk a lot but talking doesn’t win you fights, she’s just asking to be humbled,” she said.
Zamboanga was last seen in action at ONE: ‘A New Breed’ where she made short work of Thai debutant Watsapinya Kaewkhong. It was an easy night’s work for the undefeated Filipina but she knows that sterner tests await.
Zamboanga won’t be calling any atomweights out but is looking forward to showing off the improvements she has made in the six months since she last fought,
“I prefer to do my talking in the fight. I think it’s going to be a surprise for everyone. I just want to get back in there and compete.”
No more talking
However Zamboanga made it clear that she would relish the opportunity to test her skills against Bo and hopes to face the trash talking Chinese atomweight at some stage,
“Sooner or later, we will see each other in the circle, and the talking will be over.”
However she steered clear of specific predictions. Zamboanga making it clear that she is a fighter who preferred to do her talking inside the circle,
“You’ll just have to wait until we are together in the circle. I don’t really like to talk much unless provoked.”
